Multiple firing of the SAMP/T
Duel firing of the SAMP/T a success for the French and Italians
The firing of two missiles on two different targets was realized at the DGA missile firing site in Biscarosse, France on May 20th 2014. For the first time, two SAMP/T anti-aircraft systems, one from the French Air Force and the other from Italian ground forces, participated in joint firing exercises.
The targets were simulated by two drones. The SAMP/T system, firing Aster 30 missiles, intercepted the targets successfully. This exercise is a new demonstration of the operational capacities that belong to the SAMP/T system, notably its interoperability.
The SAMP/T system, (Sol-Air Moyenne Portée/Terrestre), is baptised Mamba in the French Air Force. It is capable of treating simultaneously any type of air target in a 360° defensive position. The prime contractor of the SAMP/T program is the GIE Eurosam (MBDA, Thales).
